Research into Efficiency of Movement and its Effects on Running Economy.
On my return from my trip to East Africa I was convinced that running was a movement skill and that I was determined to crack the code of natural human movement and how to turn it into human performance.
I was also passionate about researching this subject outside in the natural environment and away from the treadmill. Over the last ten years I have learned a huge amount and still have many more questions...
Research into Human Locomotor Evolution and Performance.
George and I first met in 2017 at a Marathon des Sables expo in London just before he headed out to Southeast Asia in search of the Batek tribe—our ideas and approach toward performance research clicked immediately. Since then we’ve been working on a number of ideas and projects across both athletes and indigenous groups.
The combination of our very different research backgrounds has allowed us to approach fieldwork with a unique set of perspectives and methodologies: our research projects are always an open-ended adventure…
Is our dynamic movement dependant on where we were born or on how we perceive our movement, how we live and how we train?
My research trip in Uganda looks at people in the city and in rural areas to better understand how much of our movement is based on our genetics and how much is based on our environment, is it nature or nurture?
This research is incredibly useful when it comes to coaching and changing a runners gait.
My research collaboration with inov-8 focuses bringing a human movement element to the design creation of their products. I believe that we should be passionate about using the human body to its fullest potential and combine that with technology that allows us to interact with our environment and maximise our athletic potential.
